Another day another dollar

Ok...just to give you the warning now- I'm exhausted. You know that kind of tired where you literally could fall asleep at a stop light or in mid-sentence? Yep that would be me!!! So anything said here really can't be held against me! I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning studying for my medical terminology final. I went through the review for class, typed up the words I needed to define, filled in the definitions and then typed up a new set of flashcards on quizlet. (Again, spread the word that website is amazing for vocab review in any subject! Just simply amazing. I don't believe a teenager set it up!) Ok I digress. I studied my little butt off. Finally decided around 2:30am or so to pack it in. Got ready for bed, did a few cross word puzzles and turned off the light. Well, Princess Bear is having a horrid time with her allergies and is totally stuffed up and miserable. I gave her benedryl last night before bed and she seemed ok. Well by 3:15 this morning it was totally worn off and the stuffiness, sneezing and sniffles were back in full force. Poor kiddo! So more Benedryl and a bit of Dora (nothing like Dora at oh sh*t early! lol). I did some crossword puzzles and stimulated my brain. Princess Bear (PB) finally fell back to sleep so I finally could crash. Well, PB woke up at 7am. Can I tell you under the best of circumstances I'm not a morning person. My standard line in my pre-mommy days was "It better be tall, blond and really good (& bearing caffiene) to get me up early!"

I did get PB off to school (on time!) and came home to start cleaning. I want to get PB's room all done so I can really gut mine. DId some dishes, general straightening up and then my sister called. She and Tyler were doing some shopping and felt like company. An offer I definitely couldn't resist! We went to a few stores including JoAnne's Fabrics were I got everything I needed (ok almost everything) to make a Mothers Day gift for my mom. Then we hit our local healthfood store. I needed some herbs and essential oils so I can make a few batches of shampoo. The more I read about SLS and parabens the more glad I am that I'm learning how to make soap, shampoo, lotions etc. It is absolutely horrifying when you really start to realize what we're putting in/on our bodies. I convinced my sister to try a shampoo so I was rearing to go. Unfortunately the store didn't have all of the herbs I needed and some of the essential oils were obscenely expensive. I got what I was able to find and it was time to call it a day. Tyler was nearing the melting point. It is just amazing how damn cute that kid is! He's so darn bright too! You can just see the wheels working when he's thinking. It blows me away that he's only 5 months old. He is so observant and loves taking part in his environment. It was also really nice for me to get out and push his stroller. I still haven't heard about starting PT and my ankle has been pretty bad.

I've also given some more thought on my career path. I'm now entertaining the idea of being a Clinical Laboratory Technician. I really did love the lab for my microbiology class. In my next life I want to be a forensic scientist or a forensic psychologist. Since that isn't happening this time around this clinical lab tech thing might satisfy that lab geek in me (who would have thunk it, huh?!!? lol). This is most definitely not set in stone and G-d only knows I could change my mind 12 times before I go to bed tonight.

That has been things around here. I am looking for some great affiliate programs and widgets so if you know of any please let me know!

What to be When I grow up & other random ramblings!

Ok...its been a few days since I've blogged. Nothing too new & exciting up here. The usual lack of sleep and motivation. I've really got to get cracking on my room before my parents do decide to kick us out. I'm so glad the semester is wrapping up. Maybe then I can get the house in order and my life will follow suit. Who knows. I went to lunch with Ted yesterday so he could give me his opinion on the whole therapeutic massage/ holistic healing aspect of things around here. He was not very optimistic. I of course appreciate the honesty but at this point I'd just like to make a decision about which direction my life is heading and go that way. It seems as though everytime I decide where I'd like to go with my life something happens and I begin to doubt everything. The reality is I need to figure out things soon. I love my parents and Kiernan adores them but Kiernan & I really do need our own place. That isn't exactly a thought I relish. Kiernan is a very tough very demanding kid and just having 2 other adults around helps out. Then again we need to get into a groove where its just the 2 of us and a few pets. I did rock my ch 13 test in Medical Terminology. 66 of 67. I'll find out the ch 14 results this week. My final is next Monday night. I'm pretty worried but that is a motivator right? I need to get the words written out tonight and then added to quizlet (if anyone is actually reading this and has a child in school or is in school themselves check out quizlet...the most awesome site!) Well, that said I'm going to go hop in the shower, read and clean a bit before I have to get Kiernan from school.

Welcome to Illinois!

Well, if you're not from Illinois- you're not missing much! OK, all joking aside it isn't that bad here. A few things are notable though. In my mind the weather being the biggest. As in if you don't like the weather wait 10 minutes and it will probably change. That said there are a few things that don't change in Illinois. It is absolute hell for anyone who suffers from allergies or sinus problems. Seeing as I am oh so lucky to deal with both life here is just beautiful this time of year! Today I look like a one eyed freak! My left eye is swollen red and looking oh so lovely. At first I was going to go to a doc in a box to get some allergy relief. Kiernan loved that idea. I'd worry except for the fact that its kinda cute. "Mommy going to Dr?" "Yes I am Kier lets get ready". Approximately 1 minute later Kiernan comes bounding up with a few books and and Mr. Doodle. She looks at me with those big brown eyes and in all sincerity says "Mommy I'll hold your hand". Don't we just live for those cute moments?!!? Especially amid all the chaos and destruction!!! Long story short I just called Dr. Crabb and asked for Patanol (a lifesaver for allergy eyes! Totally beautiful stuff) Kier was very disappointed not to be taking mommy to the Dr. Damn I'm such a bad mommy!

Life in the house has been very low key since the gas leak. I'm sure that it won't last long but I'll take the down time while I can! I'm doing some serious pondering on what I want to do when I grow up! I really miss my work with the Navy (and g-d knows that I miss those Navy men!) That said there are way to many complications returning to that life right now so I'm wavering back and forth between a few other options. Dental hygienist, nurse, massage therapist. Am I the only person in the world at the age of 34 has absolutely no idea what I want to do when I grow up?!!? I'm getting together with Ted on Monday for lunch to discuss the massage therapy/ alternative healing route. Money wise it would be the least profitable but is the most interesting to me. I'm getting so into making things for Kiernan and myself. Dr. Bronners is the sh*t! What a killer base to use! Its just so frightening when you thing about all of the substances that are in everyday items we use and how much is absorbed by our bodies. There is also such a feeling of well being having used and or made something that is good for you and the environment. Its been beyond cool learning what herbs can do what. Did you know if you color your hair at all you shouldn't use jojoba oil in any hair products? Jojoba oil is so moisturizing but it will make your hair very oily if it has been colored. Now aren't you glad that I shared that tidbit with you?!!?

Well that is my oh so exciting life!

Biting the bullet!

OK...so I've only had this thing set up since January & haven't done a darn thing with it. An old friend got in touch & I had big fun reading her blog and decided that I should give this a whirl. Especially in light of the day that I had yesterday. Man...I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried! Honestly, my life just lends itself to the disbelieving shake of the head.

Yesterday as a whole was rather uneventful until I picked Kiernan up from school. Kiernan came home and had her usual laundry list of things she wanted to do (swing, visit Mary, watch Caillou, etc). Whoa! Hold those horses a minute! Mommy needs to switch out the laundry. I get the old stuff out of the dryer and go to put in the washing machine load to dry. Yep, wait a minute, Houston we have a problem! I smell gas. Me...the one with no sense of smell can smell gas. This obviously cannot be a good thing. So I do what I always do in a situation like this...call dad! Hell, its his house we're just living here. He won't be home for awhile; call Cilco. Did you know that a company rep can manage to scare the bejesus out of you in approximately 15 seconds? Give them your address and then they give you the safety instructions for exiting the house. Huh? Don't hang up the phone, don't lock or unlock any doors, don't turn on or off any lights. OK, in theory this is all great. Unfortunately I live with Captain Destructo who is obviously Houdini reincarnated. What this means is that everything that can be locked is...usually multiple times! Makes for getting out of a house when your not supposed to unlock anything interesting. So we're hanging out at the neighbors (Kiernan did get her visit to Mary in) and we're waiting for the Cilco person to arrive. She gets there and goes to investigate. At this point I'm sure I overreacted and smelled nothing. Then again.... Yep we have a gas leak! She turns off the gas to the dryer and then tries turning it off in another spot and the handle breaks. It just goes with the nothing is ever simple theory right?!!? At this point I've been in the basement with said gas long enough to have a monster headache. We get the gas turned off where it needs to be and Cilco lady goes on her merry way. Kiernan & I are now kicking back waiting for my parents to arrive. I'm thinking if I got a call that there was a possible gas leak in my house I'd head home after I got out of work. My parents... nope! Hell no! :) This is prime time to get some shopping done... a new umbrella for the patio is way more necessary! OK they arrive and my dad calls to have someone come tomorrow to fix the stuff (don't ask me I know jack about fixing much of anything).

I then go about my day and most things are pretty low key. Kiernan gets her swinging time in so life is happy (for the moment...you know those 4 year old mood swings!). I get dinner ready for her and then its bath time. This means that mommy is almost home free for some down time!!! Once again hold on kiddos! Kiernan is breaking out in hives again. Benedryl is a daily part of our ritual at this point! Kiernan decided she wanted a bath not a shower. OK easy enough. I run the bath and here we go. Somehow I was supposed to read my daughters mind and realize even though she said a bath she really wanted a shower. This resulting in some trying to reason "I already ran the bath; you can have a shower tomorrow" This works oh so well. I've decided that there really is no reasoning with anyone unless they are at least old enough to vote! End result is me picking up Kiernan & dumping her in the tub! From there on out until Kiernan falling asleep things are low key. I did resort to bribery and offer my child a dollar to sleep in her own bed, not my bed and not her floor. Nope she wants to sleep in mommy's room.

Ok I get her down and its my time. Pick up a bit around the house, eat dinner. Chat with Maria for a while. Its almost amazing to have an adult conversation sometimes! I then settle in to start my review for Medical Terminology. I finish filling out my review and start to type it...ugh! To pass time I start watching A&E Intervention. I'm a firm believer that every high schooler in the world should watch several episodes of this show. The episode I caught was about a woman who was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in HS. She was 26 as of the shows taping and dealing with chronic pain issues. WOW! I never wanted to reach through a TV and shoot someones family before. Her family was just evil...especially her twin sister. OK...back to studying. 2 am and my bed is calling. I head to my room where Kier obviously was feeling warm. This leads to a very naked kid in my bed. I can deal with sans pj's but no night diaper is a problem. Yep...pee all over my bed! Color me not happy. I figure I'm stuck sleeping in my recliner. I start reading and do this until 5am. At that point the need to actually lay down is too strong to avoid...the chair is just not going to cut it. Decision time...sleep in a mattress that is pee damp at this point or keep on Kiernan's floor. The floor won out. At 6:30 this morning Kier comes busting out of my room, sees me and does a "What are you doing! That's my floor!" Hello! Like I really wanted to sleep on the floor? Gotta love the logic there. Anyhoo, that's been about the past 18 hours or so...wonder what today will bring...maybe some sleep?!!?
