Do you make your own laundry detergent?

Quick question....has anyone else made their own laundry detergent?!!!? I made my first batch last night. I'm wondering if I can add essential oils to it to make it smell yummy. One of my favorite things is washing with the lavender detergent and then using the coordinating fabric sheets. I'd love to still have the lavender smell so I'm wondering about adding the essential oils. Thanks for any input!!!

P.S.
If you have any other recipes for household cleaners I'd love them as I'm trying to go green and be frugal!

Sarah, I found your blog on my sister Sue's site. I make my own laundry detergent and have for about 18 months. I don't add essential oils because they are sooo expensive. I think the laundry just ends up smelling clean and I like it. It smells even better if you hang it to dry outside. I suppose if I did add scent, I might add a couple of drops to a cloth in the dryer and see how that would work. HTH

As for natural cleaners, I use a combination of half hydrogen peroxide and half water in a spray bottle for most things. I do add essential oil to this. A lot of people use vinegar but I don't like the smell. It works though. I use baking soda a lot too. Half and half with borax makes a great scrub for your sink.

I make mine, and I add a few drops of essential oil to it occasionally. A little goes a long way!

Hi Debbie! Thanks for the cleaner tips! Would you mind sharing your laundry detergent recipe? I did the 16 oz of water, 1 bar of shaved soap (I used Ivory), 1 c baking soda and 1.5 c of Borax. I don't necessarily notice a smell but I am noticing that things are sooooooo much softer!!!

LOL Oh Sarah, Debbie makes her own soap from scratch! Beware, she'll suck you into it!
